About the Dravyaguna Vigyan Syllabus
Department of Dravyaguna Vigyan covers Dravyaguna Vigyan (AyUG-DG) in the Second Professional year of BAMS (Ayurvedacharya). The syllabus below follows the curriculum prescribed by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM): the topic list of every paper with its teaching hours, followed by practicals, the assessment pattern and reference books.
Dravyaguna Vigyan
The Bachelor of Ayurveda education shall produce graduates having profound knowledge of Ashtanga Ayurveda. One of the chatushpada has been mentioned is Dravya. The revised syllabus of Dravyaguna along with the contemporary advances supplemented with knowledge of scientific and technological advances in Dravyaguna along with extensive practical training Fundamentals of Dravyaguna involves a thorough knowledge of various principles and concepts of Rasapanchaka (fivefold analysis of medicinal substances) and Karma (pharmacological action).

Dravyaguna Vigyan Syllabus FAQs
Dravyaguna Vigyan has the NCISM subject code AyUG-DG. It is a Second Professional BAMS (II BAMS) subject, and the curriculum is applicable from 2021-22 batch, from the academic year 2023-24 onwards for 5 years or until further notification by NCISM, whichever is earlier.
It has 2 theory papers carrying 200 marks and a practical/clinical assessment of 200 marks (100 practical, 70 viva and 30 internal assessment), for a total of 400 marks.
The NCISM curriculum allots Dravyaguna Vigyan 400 teaching hours: 150 lecture hours, 75 non-lecture theory hours and 175 non-lecture practical hours.
Paper I (Fundamental Dravyaguna) has 22 topics, including Dravyaguna Vigyana, Dravya, Guna, Rasa, Vipaka and Virya. Paper II (Applied Dravyaguna) has 3 topics, including Dravya (Drug) Nama-Guna-Karma Jnana and Dravya (Drugs) Nama-Guna-Karma-Jnana.
