Botanical Description

About the Nimbuka Plant

These plants are large shrubs or small to moderate-sized trees, reaching 5–15 m (16–49 ft) tall, with spiny shoots and alternately arranged evergreen leaves with an entire margin.

The flowers are solitary or in small corymbs, each flower 2–4 cm (0.79–1.57 in) diameter.

The fruit is a hesperidium, a specialised berry, globose to elongated, 4–30 cm (1.6–11.8 in) long and 4–20 cm (1.6–7.9 in) diameter, with a leathery rind or "peel" called a pericarp.

Pericarp (Fruit rind) yield and volatile oil, a bitter Glucoside, Herperidin(Perticularly in white portin of rind )

Being an antidipsetic, palatable, appetizer , digestant, laxative and collagogue is useful in dipsia, emesis,distate, anorexia, indigestion , constipation, abdominal distension and liver disorders. Pickle of the peel is a good digestant and appetizer.

Scurvy is due to vitamin C deficiency. In scurvy, the blood vessels become weak and leak to cause abnormal bleeding. Lemon contains various amount of Vitamin C , so it helps in the treatment of the scurvy disease .

Lemon is beneficial in decreasing swelling. Rutin in Lemon has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory property. It decreases inflammation and swelling by inhibiting nitric oxide and TNF-α production in neutrophils.
